§ 12-1-54. DISABLED-PARKING ENFORCEMENT VOLUNTEERS.
(A)
In this section, "disabled-parking enforcement volunteer" means a person appointed by the police chief under Section 681.0101 ( Enforcement by Certain Appointed Persons ) of the Texas Transportation Code to issue a citation to a vehicle illegally parked in a parking space or area designated for the exclusive use of a vehicle transporting a person with a disability.
(B)
To be appointed as a disabled-parking enforcement volunteer, a person must submit an application to the police chief on a form prescribed by the chief.
(C)
The Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities shall:
(1)
review an application under this section to determine the applicant's ability to enforce disabled-parking laws; and
(2)
make a recommendation to the chief on the person's appointment.
(D)
Before a person may be appointed as a disabled-parking enforcement volunteer, the person must in writing release the city from any claim of injury or property damage that may result from the volunteer's disabled-parking enforcement activities.
