§ 13-2-101. CHAUFFEUR'S PERMIT REQUIRED.

  • (A)

    A person may not drive a ground transportation service vehicle unless that person has a chauffeur's permit issued by the City.

    (B)

    To obtain a chauffeur's permit, an individual must submit a written application to the department, on a form prescribed by the department.

    (C)

    A driver whose application for an initial, renewal, replacement, or amended chauffeur's permit is approved shall pay a permit fee to the City.

    (D)

    A person who operates a ground transportation service vehicle in violation of this section commits a Class "C" Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $500 per offense.

    (E)

    The department is authorized to grant a conditional chauffeur's permit to drivers who comply with all requirements outlined in this chapter, but who may be:

    (1)

    enrolled and attending a local college or university with a valid out of state driver's license. The driver must renew the permit annually, unless the driver has obtained a valid Texas driver's license and presented evidence of this license to the department; or

    (2)

    relocated to the City with a valid out of state driver's license. The driver shall obtain and provide to the department evidence of a valid Texas driver's license no later than three months after the date the driver applies for the conditional permit.
