Article 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS. |
§ 6-2-3. REGULATED MATERIALS.
(A)
In this chapter, a rating for the flammability, toxicity, or reactivity of a hazardous material is prescribed by the Uniform Fire Code.
(B)
In determining the extent of the hazard presented by a material, a material that is rated by more than one characteristic is assigned the rating indicating the greatest hazard.
(C)
Except as provided in Section 6-2-4 ( Materials Not Regulated ), a hazardous material at a storage facility is regulated by this chapter if:
(1)
for a flammable hazardous material:
(a)
the material has a rating of "4" or "extreme" and the storage facility contains at least 20 liters of the material;
(b)
the material has a rating of "3" or "high" and the storage facility contains at least 200 liters of the material; or
(c)
the material has a rating of "2" or "moderate" and the storage facility contains at least 2,000 liters of the material;
(2)
for a toxic hazardous material:
(a)
the material has a rating of "4" or "extreme" and the storage facility contains at least 10 grams or 10 milliliters of the material, or, for a gas, a volume equal to 0.44 liters of water;
(b)
the material has a rating of "3" or "high" and the storage facility contains at least one kilogram or one liter of the material; or
(c)
the material has a rating of "2" or "moderate" and the storage facility contains at least 200 kilograms or 200 liters of the material;
(3)
for a reactive hazardous material:
(a)
the material has a rating of "4" or "extreme" and the storage facility contains at least 10 grams or 10 milliliters of the material;
(b)
the material has a rating of "3" or "moderate" and the storage facility contains at least one kilogram or one liter of the material; or
(c)
the material has a rating of "2" or "moderate" and the storage facility contains at least 200 kilograms or 200 liters of the material; or
(4)
the storage facility contains at least 200 cubic feet of a compressed gas, measured at standard temperature and pressure.
