§ 5.5.1. Friction Losses

Latest version.
  • Friction loss is the energy required to overcome the roughness of the pipe and is expressed as:

    H f = (29n /R 1.33 )(V /2g)L (Eq. 5-3)

    Where,

    H f = Friction loss, ft

    n = Manning's Coefficient

    L = Length of pipe, ft

    R = Hydraulic radius, ft

    V = Velocity of flow, ft/sec

    g = Acceleration due to gravity, 32 ft/sec
