§ 12-4-1. PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMIT ON STREET OR HIGHWAY.

  • (A)

    A person may not operate a vehicle on a street or highway within the territorial limits of the city at a speed greater than the maximum prima facie speed limit of 30 miles per hour unless an increased or reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law.

    (B)

    A speed in excess of 30 miles per hour is prima facie evidence that the speed is not reasonable or prudent and that it is unlawful, unless the prima facie speed limit along a particular street or highway prescribed by this Code or by state law is greater than 30 miles per hour.
